Harrisburg's unique plumbing challenges

About 100 nights a year below freezing, when uninsulated crawlspace lines give out

The oldest blocks in town run plumbing decades older than the newer builds toward Wormleysburg

First frost typically lands around November 2

Seasonal timing

Between a 24F average January low and first frost around Nov 2, the window for finding an exposed crawlspace run closes early here.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

My basement is unheated. Is that a problem for the plumbing?

Only in the cold corners, usually. Most basements stay above freezing from ground heat and the boiler, but the bay nearest an outside door or a coal chute opening is a different story. That's where a line splits on a night near 24F.

Why does the pipe in my crawlspace freeze when the house is warm?

A crawlspace is unconditioned space, so the pipe there is effectively outdoors. The rooms above stay warm because the floor is insulated, which actually makes the crawlspace colder. That combination is behind most of the frozen-line calls in older houses here.

Do I need a sump pump in a basement this old?

Only if the basement takes water. Houses with a pit already cut into the floor usually do, and the pump in it is often older than the owner thinks. Testing it before winter is worth more than replacing it after a flooded season.
