Rouseville's unique plumbing challenges

About 142 nights a year below freezing, when uninsulated crawlspace lines give out

The oldest blocks in town run plumbing decades older than the newer builds toward Oil City

Seasonal timing

With first frost typically around Oct 18, the outdoor taps and any yard hydrant want draining before overnight averages settle near 30 degrees.

Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

The outdoor tap works but water runs down the basement wall. What is that?

That pattern almost always means the sillcock split inside the wall during a freeze and only leaks while the tap is open. The pipe is intact enough to hold pressure but not enough to hold it under flow. Shut the water to that line and stop using the tap until it's replaced.

Why does my outdoor tap have low pressure compared with inside?

The usual reasons are a partly closed interior valve on that branch, a clogged vacuum breaker at the head, or corrosion narrowing an old galvanized run to the wall. Age is the deciding factor in older housing. A plumber can tell which of the three it is quickly.

Can tree roots affect the outdoor water line?

Roots are more of a problem for drain and sewer piping than for a pressurised supply line, since supply pipe is sealed. Roots can still shift shallow piping over time. If an outdoor line moves enough, the joint at the wall is where it gives.

What does it mean if the outdoor tap runs dirty at first?

A short burst of rust-coloured water from a tap that has sat unused usually comes from corrosion inside an old galvanized branch. It clears quickly if it's just sediment. If it keeps running discoloured, the pipe feeding that tap is worth inspecting.
