Common questions

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job and how bad the problem is. That is why the first step is a phone call. Describe the problem and get your free estimate on the phone, with upfront pricing.

Will I talk to a real person?

Yes, you will.

Do I need to fill out a form?

No forms and no waiting on emailed quotes. One phone call is all it takes.

Can I get help at night or on a weekend?

We have plumbers ready to help families in the community 24/7, but moment-to-moment availability depends on demand. Call to find out how soon we can service your home.

Should I wait to call?

You already know that plumbing problems don't go away on their own. And waiting just increases the risks to your house. Plumbers see this hesitation all the time. Instead of regretting not calling earlier, just make that 2-minute call now and get your free estimate.

People also ask

My basement is unheated. Is that a problem for the plumbing?

Only in the cold corners, usually. Most basements stay above freezing from ground heat and the boiler, but the bay nearest an outside door or a coal chute opening is a different story. That's where a line splits on a night near 18F.

Is the water here hard enough to cause problems?

Hardness varies by source, and limestone ground in the southeast of the state produces some of the harder supplies. Scale shows up first in the water heater and in fixture aerators. A plumber or the water authority can tell you the actual figure for your system.

We are on a well. What changes about winter plumbing?

Everything between the wellhead and the pressure tank is yours, including the buried line, and the tank itself usually lives in the basement. Winter problems there tend to show as pressure that swings instead of holding. A plumber who works on wells handles the tank and switch together.

How do I find out if my service line is lead?

Most water systems now keep a service-line material inventory and will tell you what your address is listed as. Homes built before the 1950s are the likeliest candidates around here. If the record says unknown, the utility can usually arrange a look at the point where the line enters the basement.
